  General BBR Turbo Specification Details
The BBR Turbo is based on a standard 1.6 car.
Details of the extra equipment fitted to make this limited Edition are listed below.

The BBR was mainly a performance MX-5 with all the work going into the engine and related parts, as opposed to adding unnecessary  accessories such as air conditioning and electric mirrors, the people that purchased these cars were only interested in one thing, performance.

The turbo is not to be confused with a simple bolt on accessory but a well engineered conversion, so good in fact that Mazda endorsed it with their 3 year 60,000 mile warranty.

The Turbo conversion consist of 68 parts:-

  •  A Garrett T25 Turbocharger with integral waste gate control & water cooling
  •  Exhaust manifold cast in high temperature alloy with stainless steel heat shield
  •  Air to Air Intercooler and associated pipe work cast to match finish of standard engine
  •  Competition standard hoses throughout
  •  Auxiliary engine management computer
  •  Boost gauge fuel injection control with 3-dimensional mapping
  •  Super and premium unleaded fuel grade switchover for optimum performance
  •  Stainless steel exhaust down pipe
  •  Modified sump
  •  New induction system brace
  •  Modified power steering , water and oil  system pipe work
  •  BBR Turbo identification badges
The BBR Turbo was indeed a very fast car compared with a standard MX-5 as the graph below clearly shows.

To make the most out of the extra power that the BBR offered a limited slip differential was also available as a customer option as was 15 x 6.5J 5 spoke Alloy wheels crafted by OZ of Italy, These were fitted with Dunlop D40 M2 VR-rated tyres. Many of the BBR turbo models were also fitted with a rear spoiler adding to the sporty lines of the car.

The BBR Turbo conversion had proven to be very reliable and it was decided by Mazda to be used again on the Le Mans limited edition.

A genuine BBR Turbo in good condition is becoming increasingly harder to find and are gradually creeping up in value.

A very special and rare car indeed
