What's in the name ? This model was one of the last MK1 limited editions as Mazda had the MK2 on the drawing board, so they thought it fetching to name it "Classic" which indeed the car had proven to be over the years.

  General Classic  Specification Details
The Classic is based on a Standard 1.8.
Details of the extra equipment fitted to make this limited Edition are listed below.

This was the last but one MK1 limited edition (the last being the Berkeley) hence the name classic, and classic it was. The exterior was given a classy "Brilliant Black" finish while the interior featured luxury black leather seats with red stitching around the edge.

The Interior also featured a wood trimmed centre console and a sporty Momo leather trimmed steering wheel, to add to the rigidness of the car a chrome cockpit brace was fitted behind the seats that ran from the two seat belt mounting points this also looked very smart.

Polished stainless steel scuff plates also added to the quality feel.

The car also featured unique 15" 5 spoke alloy wheels which really suited the car, and where a sensible shape to keep clean.

Power steering was also included as the car was based on a 1.8 MX-5, although it did lack electric windows which the standard 1.8 had.

Being black which is known for being notoriously hard to keep clean there is not many good examples left, its worth looking long and hard to find the right car, ideally with a service history, although the engines are very reliable.

I personally think that this should have been the last MK1 limited edition as it was called the "Classic" because in many peoples eyes it was the last true back to basics sports car that Mazda made.

A very rare and desirable model.
