Some answers to common questions regarding MX-5's

 MX-5 General (Not model specific)

Q What does the letters NA, NB and NC refer to ?
A These are the letters used in the chassis number of all MX-5's, a MK1 will have a chassis number starting with the letters JMZNA, a MK2 / 2.5 has JMZNB and the MK3 has JMZNC.....
Q Why are MX-5's called different names for example Eunos, Miata and Roadster ?
A Basically they are the same car, Mazda decided to call the MX-5 by a different name in various parts of the world. A Miata will be from America, a Eunos will be from Japan although the Eunos name was dropped in favour of Roadster in latter years, Europe will generally have the the name MX-5.

Q

Some people tell me I should wind down the windows to raise the roof is this true ?

A

Yes it allows the rubber to seal against the window correctly, and also makes the roof much easier to raise.

Q Why do I hear a 'clunk' from the rear when I first drive my MX-5 from cold ?
A It is an ABS safety check carried out automatically to make sure the braking system is working correctly.
Q Are there any parts on the older cars (MK1 and MK2) that will fit my new MK3 ?
A The only part that will fit correctly is the side indicator, all other parts have been completely redisigned.
