What's in the name ? Over the last 10 years or so that the MX-5 had been in production motoring journalist and the like had herald the MX-5 as a true Icon, therefore is was very fitting that Mazda should call a limited edition the "Icon", such was the success of this limited edition that Mazda released a second limited edition "Icon" in 2005.

  General Icon Specification Details
The Icon is based on a 1.8iS
Details of the extra equipment fitted to make this limited Edition are listed below.
The limited edition Icon was in many peoples eyes the ultimate limited edition MX-5.

It looked and felt very expensive and had a touch of yesteryears classic sport cars about it, making it one of the most desired limited edition that Mazda have produced.

The exterior was finished in a unique paint called Art Vin a deep rich mahogany colour, this proved to be a popular colour with enthusiasts and suited the cars classy looks well.

While the exterior of the car (apart from the colour) was kept very standard the interior was anything but, this was a place of luxury only normally found on cars costing twice as much.

The door panels, centre console and roof cover were among other items that were finished in a light beige, while the seats were of a matching leather. The steering wheel had a polished mahogany wooden rim, while the handbrake handle and the gear stick were also made of wood. Cream dials with chrome rings, chrome door handles finished the very luxurious and classic feel to the car.

Matched with that the fact the Icon was already based on the top of the range 1.8iS therefore having a huge list of equipment, it made this car highly desirable and were snapped up by the public very quickly.

The Icon today remains exactly what the car was named after "a true motoring Icon", and I am sure it will remain as one of the most sought after limited edition MX-5 that money can buy.
