What's in the name ?

Maybe Mazda called it the "Sport" as it was only initially manufactured in red with a full body kit and looked very sporty indeed.

General Sport Specification Details

The Sport is based on a 1.8iS

Details of the extra equipment fitted to make this limited Edition are listed below.

The limited edition "Sport" was a very high specification car both in appearance and equipment.

The exterior was finished in either Classic Red or Racing Blue and featured a full Mazda body kit comprising of side skirts, front spoiler and rear boot lid spoiler. Fog lights were added to the front bumper and rear mud flaps helped protect the car from stone chips. Mazda 15" alloy wheels finished the overall sport theme.

A colour coded hard top also came free with the car (normally a £1500 option) and air conditioning was fitted as standard.

The interior was a very nice place to be with black leather seats and Nardi steering wheel, the door panels were also covered in leather (this was normally a vinyl covering)

The centre consol, gear knob and handbrake grip featured a wood finish, while the carpet was protected with a pair of unique "Sport" mats.

The car came with all mod cons including electric windows central locking, electric mirrors, boot release and many safety features such as ABS and drivers and passengers air bag.

If you want a high specification MK2 MX-5 then the "Sport" limited edition might just be what you are looking for, but be warned good examples like the one pictured above are hard to find.
